Sick Leave to increase New Zealand

Sick Leave to Increase

June 1, 2021

The Bill to double the current sick leave entitlement, passed its third reading in Parliament this month. Accordingly, the Bill is expected to come into force mid July 2021.

Upon enactment, the annual sick leave entitlement will increase from 5 to 10 days every 12 months, once an employee has completed 6 months employment with the employer. Existing employees will be entitled to the increased benefits upon their next work anniversary date.

It is anticipated that making sick leave available to new employees from day 1 of their employment, may be introduced in 2022. Watch this space.
